IPL GAME 7: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Thursday’s game 7 in the IPL between Rajasthan Royals v Delhi Capitals with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

Run lovers can rejoice on Thursday as we are back in Mumbai for the Indian Premier League with Rajasthan Royals against the Delhi Capitals. So far we have had some massive runs in Mumbai, and although it wasn’t unexpected we had an incredible game here on Monday as Punjab Kings scored 221/6 and then Rajasthan nearly chased it down with 217/7. Rajasthan suffered a massive blow afterwards as Ben Stokes has been ruled out with a, suspected at the time of writing, broken hand.

That has obviously had a big impact on the odds on BETDAQ Betting Exchange, with Delhi Capitals now favourite favourites for what would have been a reasonably level game. That’s the impact Stokes has! Delhi were very impressive when hammering CSK in their opening game – that was played here too, so both sides should have a good understanding of conditions.

The thing about this game is that I feel the market has moved too much in the favour of Delhi. I know Stokes is a major loss for Rajasthan, and they are already without Archer too, but they still scored 217/7 without Stokes as he was out for 0 in their opening game. I know they conceded a lot of runs, but Delhi conceded 188/7 here too and CSK weren’t good last season. I still feel we’ll have a close game here, even with Stokes.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

As I mentioned above, Mumbai is all about big runs at the moment. I said we could expect this as the average score has been high for the last three seasons in India, but we had a massive game here on Monday with a first innings score of 221/6. That wasn’t a surprise for us though as we knew we would see a score of 210+ at some stage here given the ground data and I said we could easily see 200+. I feel we can easily see 200+ again here – batting conditions look excellent and I’d be focusing on the team batting for trades! It’s hard to know what to do at the toss, given Rajasthan went so close to a 220+ chase I’d probably bowl first.

RECOMMENDED BET:

You can probably guess from my opinion above I am happy to back Rajasthan here. For me the 2.42 is too big as I still expect a close game. I fully take on board Rajasthan are missing Archer and Stokes and that they are huge losses, but as I said they still managed 217/7 with Stokes out for 0 and with good batting conditions expected I feel that evens out the game. Delhi are a solid side, but they need their top order to score runs. Rajasthan might not be able to put them under pressure given how easy it is to score runs, but the same can be said when Rajasthan bat and I’d have this game 50/50 to be honest so Rajasthan look the value.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

As we get deeper into the tournament, it becomes a little easier to plan an in-running strategy. Looking at the ground history and the opening two games here, you definitely want to base your trades around the batting team. Even though Rajasthan lost when chasing a massive score here on Monday, they still moved the market a lot and got pretty close to actually winning. Of course a side can bat poorly but given conditions I really think you should be focused on the batting side here.

It will be interesting to see what Rajasthan do at the top of the order after Stokes opened on Monday. Perhaps they will move Buttler up, but they have tried that before and seemingly don’t like it. Samson looked in excellent touch here and he should continue his good form, while the top order from Delhi look very good too. To be honest, it’s all about runs here and we should have another high scoring game!
