IPL: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Thursday’s IPL game between Mumbai Indians v Chennai Super Kings with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

Mumbai Indians v Chennai Super Kings

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We have a massive game at the Indian Premier League on Thursday on BETDAQ Betting Exchange as two giants clash! It’s a very different IPL this season with these two fantastic sides struggling, they are currently sitting last and second last in the table which is remarkable. They are the two most successful sides in the IPL over the years, but as I have said over the last two weeks we really do have a changing of the guard this year. The two new sides have been fantastic, and I feel that Mumbai Indians and CSK didn’t really do well at the auction.

That has left their two sides weaker than ever before. Usually Mumbai tried to hold onto their top players, but losing the likes of Hardik Pandya was a big blow, but they have been losing stars for a few seasons now. Their bowling is pretty bad this season, and it’s no surprise that they have lost their opening six games when you look at their attack. For CSK it’s a similar story – the auction wasn’t good for them, and losing Faf du Plessis at the top of the order is a massive blow. They still have the talent in their sides to win games, but the likes of Dhoni can’t carry the lower order on his own anyone.

Both sides clearly have multiple issues, and the loser of this clash is going to be a very bad position. The fans won’t be happy with either side, but the losing side will be under immense pressure. What a huge game to enjoy though – usually this fixture is the IPL Final and here we are with a bottom of the table clash.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We’re back at the DY Patil Stadium, and as I said on Tuesday this ground has been tricky to call. We saw a score of 181/6 from RCB here after they bounced back from being 62/4 – Virat Kohli went early and left them 7/2 too. Faf du Plessis played a match winning 96 and 181/6 was too much for Lucknow Super Giants to chase down with Josh Hazlewood playing well as expected. That game was a dream for us and everything went to plan – I wasn’t quite sure on what a good score would be prior to that game but suggested the team batting first aim for 175/180. Having seen that game I’m pretty confident now that if you get that score it will be a very difficult chase.

RECOMMENDED BET:

With both these sides being so poor in the tournament this year, it’s no surprise that we have a very even market. It’s hard to back either side with confidence, and you can easily understand why the market has both sides trading so close to 2.0. The market has Mumbai Indians as marginal favourites though, and I don’t accept that. I’m happy to back CSK at 2.0 or bigger – I fully accept that they haven’t been good this tournament, but they have a more solid bowling attack than Mumbai and they have the batting to take advantage of their Mumbai bowling too. If they bat first I’d be pretty confident, but as it is I’m happy to have a small bet on them at 2.0.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Tuesday’s in-running plans worked a treat for us, and hopefully we can continue the good form here. Although we have had a range of scores here, I do feel batting first might be starting to give sides a little edge here. That’s understandable given the wickets are going to get more tired as the tournament goes on. I feel the best angle in-play here though will be taking on the Mumbai bowling. We have had plenty of success taking them on in the tournament to date, so why stop now. I would be more confident if CSK batted first, but I’m still happy to take on this Mumbai bowling whatever way the game works out. The Mumbai middle order is well worth taking on too – they simply haven’t been good enough with the bat and lack a star to get their innings home in the lower order too.
