HOBART HURRICANES V PERTH SCORCHERS: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews the Big Bash clash with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The Big Bash continues on Tuesday morning as Hobart Hurricanes host Perth Scorchers. We’re coming up to a little break in Big Bash cricket as Australia focuses on the 2nd Ashes Test match in Adelaide. That’s a Day/Night Test, so there’s little place for the Big Bash over the next week days, and Hobart will also host a Day/Night Test match later in the series. We have seen some very impressive performances in the Big Bash over the last week, but the attendances have been very poor. I’m sure the powers that be are getting worried. We had a crowd of just 4,314 at the Sydney Showground for Sydney Thunder v Melbourne Stars which was an appealing game too.

Perhaps this is a sign that they have changed too many things in the Big Bash over the last three years, and then they have also extended the schedule with the lack of International players dropping the standard too. We also have Covid19 issues and Australia hosting the Ashes this summer, so maybe this season would have seen a little dip but I would certainly be worried going forward. The tournament has to capture the public again! Despite the low attendances, we have had some fantastic action in-running on BETDAQ Betting Exchange.

Perth Scorchers have started the tournament very strongly, and recorded a very impressive win over Adelaide Strikers. Hobart Hurricanes have played the Sydney Sixers twice already, which again is something the Big Bash need to work on – fixtures falling too close together. However, they batted very well once and poorly the other time – the range of scores was 213/2 and 130/8! They look a little top heavy with the bat, and Perth will need to take early wickets.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We’ve already spent a lot of time in Sydney, and this is the first game scheduled at Hobart. This was one of the favoured grounds last season with the Covid19 protocols, and we had an average score batting first of 171. Batting first offered an edge, with the chasing side only winning twice from eight games. We saw 200+ posted once with 205/4 the highest scores and 130 all out was the lowest score – that was actually recorded by Perth Scorchers too! I would keep an open mind with this being the first game, but I would also suggest that around 170 would be a par score based on the stats.

RECOMMENDED BET:

The Perth Scorchers are a very strong looking side, and it was nice to land a bet on them to win their last game. Hobart are a decent side, but I don’t feel that they are on the same level as Perth. An early wicket and breaking the opening pair would be a huge setback for Hobart, and they mid-to-low order looks pretty weak. Given the Perth bowling looks impressive and in general bowling has been their strong point, I feel that will be the difference here. I’d have Perth trading shorter than 1.79.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

With this being the first game here, I would go into the game with an open mind on batting conditions. We know what the stats say and how the wicket played last season – I would expect pretty similar conditions but you also want to wait and see is that the case this season. We can be more confident after seeing conditions in the games going forward, but for the time being I want to confirm the conditions. Batting first should offer a slight edge here, and if we knew conditions looked the same as last season then I would be looking to find good moments to look for trades on the batting side. If Hobart lose their openers early, I would definitely want to get against their middle and lower order as they look weak.
