BIG BASH: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Tuesday’s Big Bash game between Perth Scorchers v Hobart Hurricanes with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We’re back at the Perth Stadium on Tuesday morning as the Perth Scorchers host the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash. The Scorchers have definitely improved in recent weeks since they started playing games here and they will be hoping to keep their winning run going. With bonus points on offer given the change of rules this season, the situation in the table can change quite quickly. Perth were having a shocker, but now they are right in the mix for a Playoff spot. Of course they need to keep winning given their poor start, but winning this game would put them in a great position.

Hobart are three points ahead of them in fourth position, however Perth have played a play less and have a lot going for them heading into this game. After a fast start to the tournament, the Hurricanes arrive here off the back of two losses to Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder. They experienced ground conditions here last week, and will be have surely learned to bat first if they can get the chance.

The Hurricanes aren’t a flashy side but they are solid. They have a nice top five but after that they struggle, and their bowling certainly isn’t strong on paper. The Scorchers will be full of confidence and they’ll be tough to beat with home advantage.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

As I mentioned above, you definitely want to bat first here and enjoy the best conditions. It’s easier said than done to bat first and set a good score, but it’s what you have to do. If your batting fails to fire then so be it. This will be the fifth game here and all four have been won by the team batting first. We’ve had some big wins too – the scores batting first read; 185/3 (won by 96 runs), 183/4 (won by 86 runs), 167/5 (won by 39 runs) and 185/6 (won by 17 runs). Perth Scorchers have batted first for their three wins, and it’s highly likely both sides will want to bat first again. You’d have to expect a score of around 180 again too, but it looks like 160+ would be competitive.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I’m a big fan of the Scorchers here at 1.76 on the BETDAQ Betting Exchange. Hobart Hurricanes are a solid side, but the Scorchers look in excellent form at the moment and with home advantage they have everything going for them today. Jason Roy has yet to fire here, but you’d imagine conditions will suit him. Inglis, Munro and Mitchell Marsh look in great touch and they can fire Perth to a decent score. While the Perth bowling always looked strong on paper, now the batting has finally come to the party they will be tough to beat. The Hurricanes bowling looks there for the taking.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Even though I’m a big fan of Perth Scorchers for this game, especially at odds of 1.76 as I feel they should be shorter, the stand out in-running trade here is to get on the team batting first. Obviously I would love if that was Perth as that would suit perfectly, but it seems a clear advantage to bat first here. Even last season you wanted to win the toss and bat first. With regards to in-running strategy, there’s no point looking further than the obvious!

In terms of players, once the top five have departed for the Hobart Hurricanes I would be massively against their tail. It looks pretty weak, and their bowling is certainly very hittable too. I think that would be another advantage to getting on the Scorchers if they batted first. The Scorchers bowling is decent, so I wouldn’t go heavy on Hobart if they batted first compared to the Scorchers, but that will certainly be my main play for this game.
