TUESDAY IPL: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Tuesday’s IPL Game 32 between Punjab Kings v Rajasthan Royals with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The Indian Premier League continues on Tuesday as the tournament moves back to Dubai with the Punjab Kings taking on the Rajasthan Royals. Looking at the table, you can see why this is a massive game for both sides. Not only do they want to hit the ground running in the UAE, they are sitting in mid-table and the loser will find themselves on the backfoot in the race for the Playoff places. I have to say, Delhi Capitals, CSK, RCB and Mumbai Indians definitely look like the “top four” in the tournament, but these two sides aren’t far away from getting in the mix points wise.

I say points wise because I can’t see Rajasthan Royals making the Playoffs given the talent they have already lost. At the start of the tournament they had Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler, now through injury and opting out because of Covid19 fears they have neither and you can see massive holes in their playing XI. On paper, they definitely look like the weakest team in the tournament. I must say though, I’m fascinated to see how Liam Livingstone does after a fantastic Hundred. Is he up to IPL levels?

Punjab had a huge amount of ups and downs when we had the first half of the tournament in India – they recorded the highest and lowest score at one point – I think within a week! I suppose that’s why you get when you have the likes of Chris Gayle in your side. This should be a good game for trading on BETDAQ Betting Exchange – the two sides have massive flaws, and I’m sure there will be some big swings in-running.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This will be the second game in Dubai this time around so we should have a better idea of what the wicket is like after Sunday. CSK played Mumbai Indians that day and I’m happy to slightly overlook those scores with a view to these two teams. It’s still a good guide however, but it’s also worth remembering we saw a lot of cricket here in the 2020 IPL and the average score batting first was 172. We only saw under 150 runs posted three times, so I’d expect the batsmen to be on top in most games here.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I must say I’m surprised to see the teams so close together in the market here. In my view, the Rajasthan Royals have a very weak side by IPL standards. They could surprise me, and Liam Livingstone was very explosive in The Hundred, but they have too many weak links to compete. They have issues with their bowling so need two overseas there, and that means one of David Miller, Liam Livingstone or Evin Lewis has to miss out. I know Punjab are a very up-and-down side, so I will be keeping stakes limited; however they should win here and the 1.92 is good value.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

With this being the third game of the tournament back and the second game at this venue, we should be getting a better idea of what to expect in the UAE this time around. As I said above, I would definitely favour looking for trades on the batting side rather than the bowling side. That being said, I really don’t trust this Rajasthan batting line-up. They might surprise me, but for the time being I’d be happy to take a small position against them. I would expect the market to notice how weaker they are as the tournament goes on. Punjab have some explosive batters, but they are also all hit-and-miss in terms of form so I wouldn’t be confident either way. I would lean towards Punjab winning this game, and be very cautious in-play as both sides look unreliable.
