THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Wednesday’s 3rd ODI between INDIA v AUSTRALIA with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

Australia’s long tour of India comes to an end on Wednesday, and we’re all set for a cracker too as it’s an ODI series decider on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. I’m sure this has been a very difficult tour for Australia, in the early part of the Test series it looked like they had lost the plot altogether. They were giving out to the media, and collapsing to spin on the pitch. Things turned around for them when the Indian batting failed in the 3rd Test, and while they lost the Test series 2-1 they can hold their heads high after bouncing back when it looked like a series whitewash was certain. An ODI series win now would be a great achievement.

Although Australia’s batting has flopped at times in difficult conditions, you have to give them massive credit for their battling. Most teams would have totally gone into their shell after the first two Tests. The Australian bowlers have really lead the way, and they absolutely blew the Indian batting away in the 2nd ODI. India were all out for 117, and Australia then chased it without losing a wicket in 11 overs. There’s hammerings, and then there’s that.

India dished out their own hammering in the 1st ODI, winning with 61 balls to spare and it’s fair to say the bowlers have been on top in the ODI series so far. Winning the toss might be important here – I would suggest neither side wants to bat first given the way the first two games have gone! A fascinating game ahead, with plenty at stake.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

The sides go to Chennai for the series decider, and usually the wicket is slow and low in Chennai. It will be a very interesting decision at the toss – batting first hasn’t gone well in this series but in general you want to bat first in Chennai. Even in the IPL batting first offered the best use of conditions unless there was a very heavy dew. The stadium has gone through upgrades, and then with Covid19 as well we haven’t had much cricket here. The last International T20 was 2018, and the last ODI was 2019. Wait and see how the wicket plays, but I wouldn’t go into this game expecting a lot of runs and a very easy wicket to bat on.

RECOMMENDED BET:

India come into this game as the favourites, but Australia have shown they can compete and their bowling attack has done really well. Most of their losses have been through poor batting, and their bowlers have never really performed poorly. I’m going to keep stakes low here, but I feel it’s worth supporting Australia at 2.2 or bigger as the value bet. To be honest, I am a little unsure what I’d do at the toss here so it will be interesting to see what the winning captain decides to do. I see this game being close to a 50/50 game, and Australia are worth a small bet in my view.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

I feel the best in-running strategy here going into this game is to keep an open mind. As I discussed above, it really is a hard decision at the toss. The side who has batted first as been blown away in the opening two games, but history at Chennai would suggest you win the toss and bat first here. I’d have to go with the ground history, even if we haven’t seen International cricket here for a few years. I would give an edge to the team batting first, but I would definitely want to confirm conditions before getting involved. To be honest, the bowlers from both sides have been on top this whole tour, so the best trading option here could be to support the side defending a score in the second innings.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

After seeing the batting conditions at Mirpur at the weekend, I wouldn’t go looking for trades on either batting side here. I’m happy to focus on finding trades on either bowling side, and I would be happy to back the side that bowls first because I can see plenty of market movement in the first innings. It’s hard to see the side batting first posting a big score, unless we have a heavy dew. The England middle order just hasn’t copped with conditions in the last few games, and it makes sense to take them on again with the Bangladesh bowling in top form.
