WEDNESDAY IPL: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Wednesday’s IPL Qualifier 2: Delhi Capitals v Kolkata Knight Riders with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We’re within touching distance of the Indian Premier League Final now as we have the final Qualifier on Wednesday! Delhi Capitals take on Kolkata Knight Riders in Sharjah to decide who joins Chennai Super Kings in the Final on Friday in Dubai. We should have an absolute cracker here and it’s no surprise to see such an open market on BETDAQ Betting Exchange . It’s a very interesting dynamic too – would you rather be on the side who finished higher in the table but lost the first qualifier or the side who have the winning momentum?

Kolkata Knight Riders have been superb since we started in the UAE section of the tournament. They came into this section after starting slowly in India, but they soon rocketed up the table. They were put under pressure by Mumbai Indians but responded with a huge win to settle things on net run rate too. I know Eoin Morgan is under a lot of pressure given the lack of runs, but he’s been an excellent captain for them and they have stuck with him. Take a look at Sunrisers Hyderabad for example who treated their old captain David Warner terribly – you can see the bad vibe coming out of the dressing room.

Delhi Capitals have been the most consistent side of this IPL, but their bowling let them down in the first qualifier against CSK. Interestingly, the sides have already played at Sharjah. KKR kept Delhi down to 127/9 and chased it down in 18.2 overs. Prior to that, Delhi had hammered KKR in India – chasing 154/6 in just 16.3 overs. A fascinating match awaits.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We saw Royal Challengers Bangalore post 138/7 here in the Eliminator on Monday and it wasn’t enough – KKR made hard work of chasing, but the batting conditions here are very tough. I feel it might be a slight edge for KKR to have played recently here, but we should expect reasonably low scoring. The wicket at times here has been unplayable and it’s definitely favoured the bowling side too much for an even game of cricket. It seems bowling first is a definite edge; having the small boundary is great for chasing as the six option always takes the pressure off and because we saw so many high scores last season, I feel teams have been going too hard too early here too and falling short.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I expect a hard fought and close game here. Conditions will make the game close to be honest because even chasing a low score is difficult here. I feel KKR have had superb momentum since coming to the UAE and I also feel they have a slight edge because they played at this ground on Monday. Delhi played a reasonably high scoring game in Dubai and conditions here will be so different. I know the players adjust so quickly these days, but I also feel that KKR have the ideal side for these conditions. We have two very good bowling sides, but KKR win for me.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

With batting conditions so tough, the main in-running strategy should focus on looking for trades on the bowling side. We’ve actually had quite a lot of cricket here in this IPL, and bowling first has definitely been an edge. My main trade for this game in-play will be supporting the side bowling first as the market should come in with a reasonably low score. Chasing is reasonably difficult, so I would trade out at half-time but the chasing side has usually crawled over the line here given the short boundary. Both sides have very good bowling attacks, so I wouldn’t say on a batting side for long in this one – especially with the conditions!
