WEST HAM V MANCHESTER CITY

12.30pm What a day of Premier League action ahead! We have some absolutely cracking fixtures ahead, and all sports are 0% commission on BETDAQ Betting Exchange too! We start the day with West Ham hosting Manchester City after their incredible comeback against Spurs last weekend. Spurs lead 3-0 at HT and traded 1.01 in-running only for the Hammers to score in the final moments for a 3-3 draw. Perhaps a little “Spursy” as they say, but West Ham have been playing decent football at the start of the season.

It’s fair to say that City haven’t been themselves at the start of the season. They’ve already lost against Leicester and drew with Leeds. They actually should have lost against Leeds too; losing the game 2.71 to 1.45 on xG. They weren’t massively impressive against Arsenal or midweek in the Champions League. I can’t put my fingers on it, but they just aren’t firing at the moment. I must say City feel ten ticks too short at 1.43 here. West Ham are playing good football, and City are worth a small lay to start an excellent day of action.

The Striker Says:
One point lay Manchester City to beat West Ham at 1.43 on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE

MATCH STATS

  • West Ham have lost their last nine matches against Manchester City in all competitions, only enduring a longer losing run against Arsenal (a run of 10 between 2010 and 2015) in their entire history.
  • Manchester City have won each of their five away matches in all competitions at London Stadium against West Ham by an aggregate score of 22-1, scoring at least four times in all five matches. City scored 22 goals in their last 20 matches against the Hammers at Upton Park.
  • West Ham have shipped at least four goals in each of their last four home league matches against Man City – only one other team has ever done this in the history of the Football League since 1888, with Man City conceding 4+ goals in four home games in a row against Wolves between 1957 and 1960.
  • This is the first time West Ham are starting a Premier League match against Man City above them in the table since March 2009, when they beat the Citizens 1-0 at Upton Park.
  • West Ham have scored 10 goals in their last three Premier League games, beating Wolves 4-0 at home, Leicester 3-0 away and drawing 3-3 at Spurs. The last time they scored 3+ goals in four consecutive league games was back in September 1928 – their sequence of results back then was a 4-0 home win, a 3-0 away win, a 3-3 away draw, and a 4-1 home win.
  • No team has scored 3+ goals in more different Premier League games in 2020 than West Ham (9). Indeed, the Hammers have scored at least three goals in nine of their 24 league games since David Moyes returned, as many as in their last 50 under Manuel Pellegrini.
  • Manchester City have lost their last two Premier League games in London (vs Spurs and Chelsea), as many as they had in their previous 18 such matches (W14 D2 L2). They’ve not lost three consecutive top-flight games in the capital since a run of five between March- December 2009.
  • Manchester City are unbeaten in their last 12 Premier League games that have kicked off at 12.30 (W9 D3) since losing 1-3 at home to Chelsea in December 2016.
  • Man City boss Pep Guardiola has won all nine of his matches against West Ham in his managerial career, a joint-best 100% win ratio for the Spaniard alongside his 9/9 against Watford and Bournemouth.
  • Man City’s Raheem Sterling has been directly involved in 11 goals in his last six Premier League starts against West Ham (6 goals, 5 assists), netting a hat-trick at London Stadium in City’s 5-0 win last season.

FULHAM V CRYSTAL PALACE

3pm Fulham finally got their first point of the season last weekend with a very even 1-1 draw with Sheffield United. The problem for them is they still sit bottom, with Sheffield United in 19th. The reality is they have been very poor this season, and based on what we’ve seen this season they will struggle to stay up. If they are indeed going to stay up, they simply have to take points from games like this. Palace are mid to lower table side, and they must feel that they have a real chance of winning.

The market is very open, and it’s hard to argue with that. Palace are marginal favourites, but that’s very fair too. However, since they beat Manchester United at Old Trafford they have barely created anything. They had a problem with scoring goals last season, and it looks like that could be an issue again this season. In their last three games they have created 0.69, 0.14 and 0.80. They were lucky to get a draw against Brighton, but I can see another draw here today in a low quality affair.

The Striker Says:
One point win Draw at 3.25 on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE

MATCH STATS

  • Fulham and Crystal Palace last met in the Premier League in 2018-19, with Palace winning both matches 2-0.
  • Crystal Palace are looking to win three consecutive league matches against Fulham for the first time since October 1930.
  • Fulham – who are on a record run of 11 consecutive top-flight London derby defeats – have lost 20 of their last 23 London derbies in the Premier League (W2 D1). However, two of the three occasions they’ve avoided defeat in that run have been against Crystal Palace.
  • Fulham picked up their first draw in 24 Premier League games last time out at Sheffield United (W5 L18), taking the lead for the first time this season courtesy of Ademola Lookman’s strike.
  • Fulham have lost their last three home Premier League games by a 3+ goal margin, scoring none and conceding 10 goals. No team in top-flight history has ever lost four consecutive home matches by a margin of at least three goals.
  • Crystal Palace have kept just two clean sheets in their last 28 Premier League London derbies – however, both of these came in victories against Fulham in the 2018-19 season.
  • Crystal Palace have failed to score in six of their last seven away games in all competitions (W1 D1 L5), with the only exception in that run being a 3-1 victory at Manchester United.
  • Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic has lost all 11 Premier League London derbies in which he’s played, the highest 100% loss rate in the competition’s history.
  • Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha has scored four goals in his five Premier League games this season, as many as he netted in 38 appearances last season. His four goals have been worth five points to the Eagles so far this term.
  • There is a gap in age of 33 years and 65 days between Fulham boss Scott Parker and Crystal Palace’s Roy Hodgson, the second-biggest gap in age between two English managers for a Premier League game after the 35 years and 38 days gap between Hodgson and Swansea’s Leon Britton in December 2017. Indeed, this age gap is greater than the age of any player to have ever appeared for Scott Parker in his managerial career so far.

MANCHESTER UNITED V CHELSEA

5.30pm This is the highlight of the weekend! These two did battle for the Top Four spots last season, with the battle going right down to the final day – with Leicester eventually missing out. I can see both battling out for the Top Four again this season, but the early signs are that both have issues. They’ve had very different transfer markets, with Chelsea spending big and United not doing much. United have started the season poorly, but managed to beat PSG midweek away from home in the Champions League. Perhaps it was classic Manchester United – turn up for the big games and perform poorly against the likes of Crystal Palace and Brighton.

For all the money that Chelsea have spent, they look like the same team. They are excellent going forward, but still have major issues at the back. This has been highlighted by 3-3 draws against West Brom and Southampton. They did have a very boring 0-0 draw with Sevilla midweek, although these two should bring goals. Both have big issues at the back and there’s a lot of attacking talent on show. The game might need a spark to get going, but we could see another crazy scoreline here. Over 2.5 goals is worth backing at 1.67.

Two points win Over 2.5 goals at 1.67 on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE

MATCH STATS

  • Manchester United are looking to win three consecutive top-flight meetings against Chelsea for the first time since September 1965 under Matt Busby.
  • Chelsea are winless in their last seven Premier League away matches against Manchester United (D4 L3); it is the Blues’ longest run without a top-flight win at Old Trafford since a 16- game streak between September 1920 and January 1957.
  • In the Premier League era since 1992-93, Manchester United vs Chelsea is the most played fixture between top-flight teams in all competitions, with this the 82nd meeting between the sides since then.
  • Only once in their league history have Manchester United lost each of their opening three home league games in a single campaign, doing so in the 1930-31 season when they finished bottom.
  • Manchester United last lost three consecutive league matches at Old Trafford in February 1979 (lost their last two), whilst they last went five consecutive matches without a victory on home soil in the league in February 1990 (winless in their last four; D2 L2).
  • Since the start of last season, Chelsea’s away Premier League games have seen more goals scored than any other side’s have in the competition (87), with the Blues shipping more goals on the road than any other Premier League side in that time (42).
  • So far in 2020, only Arsenal (15) have dropped more points from winning positions in the Premier League than Chelsea (13), while no side have gained more points from behind than Manchester United (13).
  • Frank Lampard lost his first two league matches against Manchester United last season, becoming only the third Chelsea manager to do so (David Calderhead in 1907-08 and Ted Drake in 1952). He would be the first ever Blues boss to lose his first three games against Man Utd if he loses this match.
  • Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has scored four goals in his last three games against Chelsea in all competitions, including a brace in this exact league fixture last season – the last Red Devils player to score 2+ goals in consecutive home top-flight matches against Chelsea was Tommy Taylor in 1957.
  • Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes has been directly involved in 20 goals in his 18 Premier League appearances (11 goals, 9 assists), more than any other player since his debut in the competition.
  • New Man Utd signing Edinson Cavani could make his Premier League debut in this match – he’ll be looking to become the second oldest ever debutant goalscorer in the competition (33y 253d on the day of the game), after Zlatan Ibrahimovic in August 2016, also for Manchester United (34y 316d).

LIVERPOOL V SHEFFIELD UNITED

8pm We end the day with Liverpool hosting Sheffield United as they start Premier League life without their star man Virgil van Dijk who was injured last weekend at Everton. They have got off to a winning start without him, running out 1-0 winners away to Ajax midweek in the Champions League. Van Dijk will be a huge loss as Liverpool approach bigger games, but its highly likely they won’t miss him this evening. Sheffield United have started the season poorly, with only one point from five games and that came against Fulham.

In fairness to Sheffield United, they have been unlucky to only have one point. They have been losing very close games, indeed they should have got a draw against Aston Villa and Leeds. The reality is Liverpool are vastly above Sheffield United in terms of quality and with Sheffield United creating little in tight games, I can’t see past Liverpool here. The match odds market agrees, and I see value in under 3.5 goals at 1.65. Sheffield United have really struggled to score, and Liverpool haven’t hit hot gear yet. I expect a Liverpool win to nil, without scoring too many.

MATCH STATS

  • Liverpool have won their last three Premier League games against Sheffield United without conceding a single goal, winning by an aggregate score of 3-0 last season.
  • Sheffield United have lost 19 of their last 23 away top-flight matches against Liverpool (W3 D1) with their last win at Anfield coming back in April 1994 (a 2-1 victory courtesy of a brace from Jostein Flo).
  • Since having their league title win confirmed last season, Liverpool have conceded 25 goals in 12 Premier League games – no side has conceded more. Their previous 25 league goals conceded had come across a period of 38 games.
  • Liverpool haven’t failed to win three consecutive Premier League games since May 2018 (D2 L1), with the Reds currently winless in their last two in the competition (D1 L1).
  • Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 61 Premier League home games, winning 27 of their last 28 at Anfield. They’ve netted 162 goals in these 61 games (2.7 per game), while conceding just 40 in return (0.7 per game).
  • Sheffield United have lost 16 of their last 17 away league matches against the reigning top-flight champion, winning the other 1-0 in 1971-72 at Highbury against Arsenal via a goal from Stewart Scullion.
  • Sheffield United are the only side yet to be ahead in a Premier League match this season, picking up their first point of the campaign against Fulham last time out.
  • Sheffield United haven’t scored more than once in any of their last 13 Premier League away games (W2 D3 L8), netting just six goals in total since beating Norwich 2-1 in December 2019.
  • Liverpool have failed to win consecutive league games in which Mohamed Salah has scored for the first time, losing to Aston Villa and drawing with Everton. Indeed, the Reds had only failed to win two of the last 46 Premier League games in which the Egyptian found the net.
  • Liverpool will be without Virgil van Dijk in this match, ending a run of 94 consecutive Premier League games the Dutch defender had started. Since his league debut for the Reds he’s only missed one Premier League match – a 3-0 victory over Huddersfield in January 2018.
