LA LIGA THURSDAY: Our European football tipster The Ultra previews ATLETICO MADRID v HUESCA and BARCELONA v GETAFE both with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

ATLETICO MADRID V HUESCA

6pm What a massive night at the top of La Liga! Real Madrid might have been in action on Wednesday night, but Atletico Madrid and Barcelona play tonight and it could be all change by the end of the night. After Real did all the hard work when winning El Clasico, they went and gave it away at the weekend with a 0-0 draw with Getafe. That meant that Atletico Madrid started the midweek fixtures with a three points cushion over Real Madrid and five points ahead of Barcelona, however Barcelona have a game in hand now after winning the Copa Del Rey at the weekend. After creating so much pressure on Atletico in recent weeks, it has eased somewhat after last weekend but the reality is Atletico need to keep winning as the games tick down.

Atletico Madrid couldn’t have been more impressive at the weekend against Eibar in a 5-0 win. They actually kept Eibar to an xG of 0 – it’s not often you see that, I thought it was a typo to be honest! As you could imagine, they absolutely dominated the game and that was a big improvement on recent weeks. That performance can give them the confidence needed to beat sides like Huesca too. Huesca have actually been playing very well in recent weeks, and managed to get out of the relegation zone. They still have a lot of work to do to stay up, but they have been battling hard. I said this when Atletico played Eibar who are also in a relegation battle that they’d probably rather play a mid-table side with nothing to play for than a team fighting for their lives, but the reality is Atletico should easily outclass this Huesca side. Huesca generally like to keep games very tight and I can see them putting 11 men behind the ball here so I’m happy to take the 1.8 on under 2.5 goals. I feel Atletico will grind out a win in a low scoring games.

BARCELONA V GETAFE

9pm Getafe were able to take points off Real Madrid at the weekend and dent their La Liga challenge, can they do the same to Barcelona? The market can’t see it and is very confident that Barcelona win as they are trading as short as 1.24 on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. In fairness, Barcelona have been playing some excellent football lately so it’s not a surprise that they are so short in the market. Getafe might be without a win in their last six, but they actually deserved to beat Real Madrid at the weekend. The game finished 2.35 to 0.66 on xG to Getafe – even Barcelona couldn’t do that to Real in El Clasico! Barcelona have been putting in some wonderful xG figures recently though, and deserved a draw in El Clasico.

I said at the weekend that Getafe were probably far enough away from the relegation zone to not really worry, but they are only four points away from the danger zone with so many teams in the mix. That points against Real would have been a welcome bonus, and I’m sure anything from this game will be viewed as a bonus too. Getafe like to keep games really tight, and you can see that by looking at their xG figures. To be honest, most of their games are boring low scoring affairs. Whether or not they can keep Barcelona in check is another question, but for me it’s all about the odds here. I fancy Barcelona to get the job done, but Getafe will make life very awkward and spend the night defending. I feel under 2.5 goals is worth a small bet at 2.3 – Barcelona will have to work hard to get through this Getafe side who are very unlikely to score too.
