WORLD CUP: We preview Friday’s three World Cup games between EGYPT v URUGUAY, MOROCCO v IRAN and PORTUGAL v SPAIN each with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

EGYPT V URUGUAY

1pm Day Two of the World Cup kicks off with Egypt taking on Uruguay at 1pm BST. Uruguay have been a popular “outsider” pick prior to this World Cup and it will be interesting to see how they get on here at the start of the tournament – they have picked up a somewhat “easy” Group with the hosts Russia meaning they’ve been kept away from some of the other favourites. Salah’s fitness for Egypt has been one of the main talking points leading into the World Cup and rightly so – it’s hard to think of another team so dependent on one player.

The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Egypt 7.2, Uruguay 1.67 and the draw is 3.7. There’s no doubt that Egypt will come here to defend and hopefully pick up a point without Salah – it’s hard to see them scoring without him. They have really struggled in recent games without their main man and Uruguay can take advantage here. Obviously we could get a shock and see Egypt name him in the starting XI – however most reports suggest this game has come too early for him and without Salah, we feel that Uruguay are a great bet at 1.67 to start Day Two.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Uruguay to beat Egypt at 1.67.

MOROCCO V IRAN

4pm These two are more than likely going to be going home after the Group stages after getting drawn in a Group with Portugal and Spain, who play later. They will obviously believe that they can get through though; and expectations are always highest at the start of the tournament! Both sides have reached the World Cup because they are so good at the back – so we won’t be shocked to see a very cagey affair here.

The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Morocco 2.28, Iran 4.1 and the draw is 3.1. The draw definitely appeals as a shade of value looking at the defensive records of both sides, we could easily see a FT score of 0-0 here too which is trading 6.8. Under 2.5 goals will be a popular bet; however it’s only trading 1.44! Morocco were the only team not to concede a goal in the Third Round of African Qualifying while Iran kept nine clean sheets in a row in their qualifying. We’re going to take a chance here and go with 0-0 FT score at 6.8 in what could be a very quiet game.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Correct Score 0-0 at 6.8.

PORTUGAL V SPAIN

7pm As we noted in the game above; both these sides will likely be qualifying from the Group stages, however they will want to finish first for an “easier” draw and it’s great to have such a big clash so early in the tournament. We’ve had plenty of drama in the Spanish camp already this week as they’ve sacked their manager for taking the Real Madrid job after the World Cup. Nobody is sure of the ‘ins and outs’ of what happened; but it’s a horrible way for any side to go into a major tournament.

With Spanish plans up in the air, it may be a good time to lay them. The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Portugal 4.3, Spain 2.12 and the draw is 3.25. It’s hard to see either side really attacking here, at least at the start of the game anyway, as a loss for either will almost certainly see them finish second – or even worse with a shock. Portugal come in here as European Champions however they drew 9 of their 12 games in that tournament and it’s likely that we see the same result here. After sacking their manager, we’re happy to lay Spain at 2.12 which we feel is a little short considering the week that they have had and the quality of opposition.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Lay Spain at 2.12.
